week 7 check in
This week I struggled with the layout and figuring out what few pieces I am going to work on and put out next now the time is getting real low and close to finals. I again have continued on the bridal painting while planning much more. The first two pictures are just some ideas of how I first start my thought process of putting out a piece of art. I normally always work from a collection of photos and a sheer idea of what the end result should look like. I make many rough sketches before I even think about painting to make sure I have the correct layout and look so I don't have to fix as much when it comes to the painting itself.
This week I have been successful going through my older in progress pieces and picking them up again. Having art that has had time to dry and set allows me now to go back overtop of older art I wasn't happy with and improve it to the point I like. I also have tried mixing and layering different medias to not only help me complete some art faster, but also show variety and add more at the same time.
Next week I really plan to work a bunch on my art whenever I get the chance so I can hopefully start to finish up all of these pieces. I need to just get started on a few more paintings and pay attention to the ones that I spent time on and then forgot about. I look forward to painting the hawk with the plan of using acrylic knowing it dries relatively fast. It was an idea that occurred in my life that I later expanded the idea on. Hawks show much representation when it comes to letting go and moving on with your future. They give a strong intimidating look but have much more to learn about them and the more I researched the more I found out. I hope to branch out on my ideas but quickly as now the time is starting to get low.

week 6 Check in
A challenge I had this week was just really using my patience to take the time to actually go over and fix up struggle areas. I tend to rush through art and make sloppier pieces when I put out pieces for school every now and then but I spent my time and energy on this piece to work on perfecting proportions and appearance. I as well have been working on this in and out of school which gives me extra time to focus and think about how I want the final outcome to be.
I was really happy with the variety of textures and the color palette I have going on. I have had lots of fun trying new techniques and styles to apply and use oil paint. I feel areas are looking better than others and that some are really starting to take their place of how they will look once everything is complete.
Next week I plan to add in some smaller details finally and clean up spots that need touch ups. I would love to focus on the bride a bit more and make her dress and body look more realistic; then add her face and make sure that looks how I want it. I also think that adding something more different or something that would stand out would look nice on the final piece to make it pop. I plan to use a small little sparkly/ shiny material to add a little something extra that will blend in with the overall painting.

week 5 check in
This week I dealt with the planning of a new piece which is never easy. I knew this one needed to have a beautiful appearance with a deeper meaning the more you learn. This week I did a bunch of sketching and revising to make sure I had my plan before I started painting. Once I moved to the canvas I started with a brown toned layer followed by a thicker layer to build up texture and colors using complementary toned colors focusing on blues and oranges to make the rest of the painting pop. The white highlights, light walls, and soon to be details stand out against the deeper wood colors and cool toned shadows.
Overall I feel I have a really good base layer and start on this idea. I am really happy with the colors that have shown through so far even though there are more overlapping layers to come. I have an exact idea of the painting I am now working towards and I have a goal of what I want this pice to look like completed. Along with this piece I feel that I have improved at brainstorming my art projects. I'm no longer as lazy when it comes to planning and I think more often about how to involve my life experience into my art. I notice that I tend to excel at ideas that come to me through my everyday life versus the ideas I brainstorm even though I am practicing and working on my brainstorming skills.
Next week I plan to try and make things look a little more accurate, lines and angles straighter, the bride more proportionate, and set myself up with a better base so I have the perfect start to add dainty details for the wedding feeling. I want to expand on the idea so far and prepare this to have the best possible outcome that I feel proud of. Some walls and other lines in the painting are very slanted and not straight at all which will forever bother me if I don't fx them and make them look right. I don't need this piece to be perfect down to the measurement but I need it to look porpotionatly correct.
